This blog will be about texting and the effects it has on our society today. I decided to write about this subject because just about everyone with a phone texts, and it’s not just kids either; I see adults texting just as much as teens. I wanted to learn some of the pros and cons about the matter and look at all the trends that have arisen.
In my experience, I tend to text way more than actually calling people. I’m a pretty shy person, so my being able to interact with people without actually having to talk to them will always intrigue me somewhat. I still call people I’m really comfortable talking with like my family and a couple of my best friends, but for the most part I prefer to text. I don’t want to completely lose touch with human interactions though, which I believe is a strong possibility to happen when people do nothing but text.
Another reason why I chose this topic is because I wanted to research how often people text and drive and some of the consequences of doing so. I personally try my best not to do it, even at stop lights, but a lot of my friends do, as well as my mom, and I want to look up some statistics to possibly prevent them from continuing to do it before something bad happens. I have also noticed how younger people tend to write more in text lingo rather than proper English. Sometimes while writing papers I have to catch myself from writing “lol” and shortening words on purpose just to save space. I’m curious to see if others have any struggles when writing papers or applying for jobs or anything else where one is judged by the number of typos in their writing.
